2019 Aston Martin's Hypercar Evolution: AM-RB 003 Concept

Aston Martin continues its triumphant march through the realm of mid-engine hypercars, presenting their latest creation –the AM-RB 003 concept– for all to admire at the Geneva Motor Show. One might even say that the British automaker is writing an enticing saga in automotive history and this newest chapter seems to follow suit.

Third Time’s a Charm?

The AM-RB 003 is actually the third installment in what appears to be a relentless pursuit of perfection by Aston Martin. An indirect descendant of both the Valkyrie and Valkyrie AMR Pro models, it’s distinctively different yet shares some fundamental styling with these predecessors. The vehicle employs F1™ technologies, pushing boundaries while meeting or exceeding performance demands set by existing top-end hypercar rivals.

A New Design Language

Miles Nurnberger, Director of Design at Aston Martin had marked intentions for this new model, ensuring a clear lineage was maintained but taking certain design elements further than before. Aspects such as extensive luggage space behind seats and LMP1-style doors emphasize usability alongside high-performance credentials.

Innovative Aerodynamics

Firmly rooted in aerodynamic evolution, the car boasts morphing technology across its rear wing span employing FlexFoilTM developed by FlexSys Inc., verified extensively by NASA testing. This allows for adjustments in downforce without physically shifting the angle of key components which results reduced turbulence and drag on the super sleek bodywork.

Cockpit Comfort Meets Future Tech

Rapid advancements are not limited to exterior glamour; inside you will find unprecedented applications of ‘Apex Ergonomics’. Pioneering techniques include advanced 3D printing methods to achieve weight-saving goals such as a center console that’s half the mass yet includes functional switches. Parameterized forms enable creation of intricate and visually pleasing elements while reducing material usage.

Power Under the Hood

The AM-RB 003 will be powered by Aston Martin's new hybrid turbo V6 engine, marking their return to in-house designed engines. This potent mechanism is supplemented with cutting-edge technology borrowed from Aston Martin Vulcan track-only model –Nexcel sealed oil system– which allows for speedy sub-90 second oil changes along with refined reusage of the vehicle’s engine oil.

Above and Beyond:

In collaboration with Red Bull Advanced Technologies (RBAT), Matt Becker - Chief Engineer at Aston Martin - and Chris Goodwin have taken on the task of honing optimal dynamic setup for this concept car. With solid ground experience from working on Valkyrie development, they aim to create an entirely distinctive character for the AM-RB 003 without missing out on progressive nuances learnt from previous projects.

Craftsmanship Meets High-Tech Engineering

Indeed, there are promises of high performance, innovative design approaches and advanced manufacturing techniques all converging into what could well define future standards in automobile engineering. It truly seems like Aston Martin has put forth another stellar feat melding traditional craftsmanship with space-age technologies through its ongoing partnership with RBAT.
