A Closer Look at the 2011 ABT Volkswagen Touareg

The 2011 Volkswagen Touareg, a versatile SUV that has earned its reputation as a potent player in both off-road and on-road environments, has been reimagined by ABT Sportsline. The Bavarian tuning specialists, known for their expert touch, have once again approached a vehicle with respect for its essence, augmenting the SUV's inherent strengths while never losing sight of its original character.

A Deft Balancing Act

Christian Abt, the General Manager who oversees technical development at ABT, has a clear understanding of the demands and expectations of premium vehicle buyers. According to Abt, the aim was to increase the power output while retaining the core characteristics of the Touareg. This perspective has been instrumental in shaping the direction of ABT's engagement with the Touareg since its inception in 2002, with a consistent focus on sportiness that aligns with the SUV's spirit.

Engine Performance that Stands Out

Recognizing that a 2.5-tonne vehicle needs a robust engine, ABT Sportsline's upgrades give the Volkswagen Touareg a newfound level of supremacy. With the 3.0 TDI engine, the ABT POWER package bumps the horsepower up from 240 HP (177 kW) to an impressive 282 HP (207 kW). Opting for the ABT POWER S package takes it a step further to an astounding 310 HP (228 kW). These performance enhancements are complemented by an increase in torque from 550 Nm to 580 Nm or 610 Nm. The V8 turbo diesel variant also sees a boost in power with 385 HP or 283 kW (up from 340 HP / 250 kW) and a torque of 870 Nm (up from 800 Nm).

Distinctive Styling

The ABT Touareg's status as an authoritative yet elegant vehicle is accentuated by ABT BR and CR designer wheels. These alloy wheels, which can be scaled up to a commanding 22 inches, pair seamlessly with high-performance tyres, underscoring the SUV's aesthetics. Other bodywork elements, including a sporty front grill and rear wing, integrate smoothly with the vehicle's design. The addition of a rear apron and a 4-pipe exhaust unit further distinguish the ABT Touareg, making a clear statement about its lineage.

Final Remarks

The 2011 ABT Volkswagen Touareg seamlessly blends the SUV's original charm with ABT Sportsline's distinct style and performance upgrades. The result is an SUV that embodies versatility, power, and sportiness in equal measure. This offering from ABT represents a thoughtful and measured approach to tuning that doesn't overshadow but rather enhances the Touareg's core attributes.
